Check it out! As part of its Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin 2017-2018 Season, Hennepin Theatre Trust is bringing some some of hottest new Tony Award®-winning productions, as well as some returning classics, to WeDo.
Making their local premieres are Disney’s Aladdin (Best Musical Nominee, 2014), based on the Disney animated film of the same name, and The Humans (Best Play, 2016), the Pulitzer Prize nominated one-act play that tells the emotional journey of an average American family. They also have Waitress (Best Musical Nominee, 2016), the story about courage and making a fresh start with original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy® nominee Sarah Bareilles, and Something Rotten! (Best Musical Nominee, 2015), the musical comedy about two brothers desperate to write a new play but overshadowed by Shakespeare.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. The season lineup also includes Finding Neverland, the new musical that tells the fascinating story of how Peter became Pan, and School of Rock –The Musical (Best Musical Nominee, 2016), Andrew Lloyd Webber’s newest work based on the film of the same name. And, for the first time in a single Broadway season, you can experience three of his musicals with the return of The Phantom of Opera and the Minnesota premiere of the sequel Love Never Dies, which takes place 10 years later on Coney Island.
And back by popular demand are the Tony Award-winning Best Musicals Chicago and Jersey Boys.
